Comet clearance appliance breakdown

I bought a washer/drier off the Comet clearance website in July, it turned up late July and didn't work. I waited 2 weeks for an engineer who said he had to order a part. The part arrived and another engineer arrived yesterday to fix it, however, he said the part was faulty.
Today I get a phone message from Comet saying that the appliance is not reparable and they will give me a refund.
I just wanted to know whether they can do this as it has a 12 month guarantee and I still need a washer/drier from somewhere, also, they haven't arranged to pick it up so it's still stuck in the middle of my kitchen which is less than ideal, if I try and ring them it takes at least 20 minutes to get through to someone who can't help either
