we have a lexmark x543 . pc world seem to charge £65 for a new black toner. another company says about £37.99 though dont know if i have to add postage with that. thanks for any input.

You can certainly get remanufactured toner cartridges (I've seen them used in offices).
Cheapest I can see on froogle for yours is £34.65 and that looks like it's probably remanufactured although it isn't over clear to me http://www.google.co.uk/products?hl=en&q=remanufactured+lexmark+x543+toner&scoring=p

Cartridge World sell refilled, remanufactured, printer toner cartridges. So do several other firms!0
