Go into your router's settings and look for "security" or similar. Without knowing what router you have nobody can help you.

We need more information to help

What key? The wireless key or the routers config panel key?

    What make/model of router?

    The wireless key.

The router is O2 broadbands and is a O2 wireless box 11. It is a Thomson TG585 v7.

I can not get into the routers settings as the username and password which O2 provided me with does not work.

Those are not the user names and password you are looking for.

This is what you need courtesy of Kitz website:

    Thomson TG585 v7
Log in to the router from http://192.168.1.254
    Default UserName = Administrator
Default Password = (blank) or Serial Number from under the router
    From the left hand menu:
    Broadband Connection >
    DSL Connection >
Then select "Details" from the top right.
    Direct link
    http://192.168.1.254/cgi/b/dsl/dt/?ce=1&be=0&l0=1&l1=0
    or
    http://192.168.1.254/cgi/b/dsl/dt/?be=0&l0=1&l1=0
The other stuff is so you can get your line stats, you'll have to hunt around for the wireless settings.
That gum you like is coming back in style.

You can, probably, find the wireless key that laptops use to connect to your router and thus the internet by downloading and running one of Nir Sofer's utilities WirelessKeyView. Note that the resulting wireless key necessarily has to be a long string of numbers and letters, not the "Password" that you entered in characters initially!

Note also that several over-enthusiastic AntiVirus manufacturers classify many of his utilities as containing viruses or trojans, different utilities (and virus names!) for each manufacturer. They don't, TTBOMK!

Thanks soooooooooooooooo much, that worked. Now all I need to know is how to find out what the wireless network key is and how to change it to something memorable. :o

See my post above! Though if you're going to change it to something memorable, you don't need to know what the current one is, do you! You just need to find where to put the new wireless password in the router's Wireless page(s)...
