I've recieved some great advice from this forum, that has solved many a techical issue, and so Im back with another one! Any help or ideas would be greatly apreciated.
My parthers laptop had a problem with windows xp, in that it wouldn't load properly, error messages about DLL were coming up, and user profiles were not being found. Ive loaded microsoft windows xp professional reinstallation CD, including service pack 1a, which seemed to fix the problem. I can now access windows xp and the user profiles. The problem I have now is I can't connect to the internet. I was trying to hook into my wireless home network, but when I click on wireless network conection no networks are showing. There is a message saying '' if you are having difficulty connecting to a network, click advanced'' but the 'advanced' box isn't highlighted ( it's grey, as is the 'connect' box)
Now, I'm pretty computer literate,( but by no means a pro!!) and have set up wireless connections before, but for some reason I'm stumped here. Is it something simple I've overlooked ( the wireless switch is enabled on the laptop) or something more complicated?
The laptop is very basic as it's one he only uses for online gaming/facebook/ stuff he cant access through his works laptop at home. It's a Toshiba Satellite Pro L10. There's nothing stored on the computer that I'm frightened of loosing, so am willing to give anything a shot!!
Thankyou!

Are all the drivers installed properly in device manager? If not, download from toshiba (a wired ethernet connection may work, temporarily).!!

ok, I think I may need to back track a bit!
YThis msg just popped up '' Setup library iis. dll could not be loaded, or function OcEntry could not be found. Contact your system administrator. The specific error code is 0x7e.''
Any ideas?
hmmm; it turns out this msg popped up when my daughter was ''only pressing buttons'' ;-) lol somehow she'd got into the add/remove windows components menu. I'm not sure if this has anything to do with my inability to access the internet or previous xp problems?Comping wins

Do you have a Certificate of Authenticity with a Windows key at the bottom of the laptop? Which version of Windows was installed at the time of purchase?0

If you think it's best just do a clean install, do so by booting up with the new disc.
Back up the drivers from the Toshiba website on to a CD, so that you are ready to install them after the OS installation.
You probably won't need your Windows key as the XP disc should auto-authenticate.
If you still only have the standard 256MB RAM installed, get another 512MB RAM module installed. £15.0 -
ok, done a complete reinstall of windows, and the laptop is running much much better. So now onto my 'not so stong point' .....drivers!!
It looks like I need to completely reinstall the driver for the wireless LAN card, as it's not showing up, the only one I can see in the network connections is the local area connection ( before reinstall the wireless card was showing too)
So my question is, how do I identify which driver I need to reinstall? Is it specific to the LAN card I have in the laptop ( which is an INPROCOMM IPN2220 wireless LAN card) or is related to the laptop? (toshiba sat pro L10) I'm guessing it's the first, but when I google dreivers for IPN2220 I'm a bit bamboozled!!
Thanks to everyone for you help, esp Donnie, who's taken the time and trouble to help me.
Update: Success! I found the driver from the toshiba site and I'm now up and running online! Let's hope it stays like that when I connect it to his home network! Thanks again everyone! I'm proud of myself too for managing to do it all!! lolComping wins
