Unless of course the crossbar is going to be set at a higher level.
I think you've hit the nail on the head - how else would the DLA cost to government be reduced?

Is their anything to suggest what the Govt plan, apart from medicals for DLA. What the medical will intail? Or is it speculation til 2013?0 -
may be we should group together and take the goverment to the european court of human rights as we have been told to stop work but the box ticker overules the doctors and consultants etc, sorry about spelling eyes are playing up. who the heck do they think they are.
it must be pointed out that DLA is nothing to do with being fit or unfit for work, you can and many do claim dla whilst working.
But i do agree that at some point a challenge via the legal system seems on the cards.0 -

From what's been said, nothing has been agreed as to what this medical will involve.Sealed pot challenge #232. Gold stars from Sue-UU - :staradmin :staradmin £75.29 banked

I get high rate Care and low mobilty. Love to be off DLA and Income Support!! I'm only 25, however the way things can be is......
Many a dicussion on here, whether to take myself of DLA.
if you are entitled to dla why on earth would you want to take yourself off it?just wait 3 years and the tories will do it for you, they and their budget are pure evil.0 -

What exactly does that mean? There are people on here who hve completely different condition than me and needs. You can't exactly say they've got more / less needs than me.
And there's no way they can decide based on how many times one visits a GP / consultant. My visual problems are incureable and I only get seen for medication stuff (change & review) and check ups every year.Sealed pot challenge #232. Gold stars from Sue-UU - :staradmin :staradmin £75.29 banked

Where people aren't working because of depression it might well be worth their while finding out whether their condition might be helped by working, rather than assuming the opposite.
Ive suffered from depression on & off now since 1998.
I know what has caused my depression but don't know what I can do to get over it.
I was working when I started getting depressed & even though i'm not working now it hasn't gone away.
Cognetive behavial therapy didn't work & Anti depressants don't work on me either as im autistic.
The mental health team i was referred to by my gp after I started self harming & had a couple of suicide attempts said they they can't help me as the depression is just a symptom of my aspergers.
I genuinely do want to get better & have even tried taking numerous vitamin & mineral supplements etc after reading that they can help depression but to no avail.
The main problem seems to be lack of funding on the NHS for treatment of mental health problems.I'd rather regret the things I've done than regret the things I haven't done.

Have read through this a little, hope I'm not overly repeating what's been said.
It's about being able to work whilst on dla.
My aunt has no use of her legs, and lives alone. The illness she has has progressively worsened and now her shoulders and wrists have weakened to a large extent. This means she can't get herself in and out of bed, to the loo, to the shower etc etc. BUT she holds down a full time reception job, her switchboard now has like an ear phone attachment and her company have sorted all sorts of bits and bobs out for her to work.
She is entitled to HRM and HRC for DLA because she needs caring for during the day and during the night, else she couldn't do ordinary basic hygiene things, and she needs a carer. But she is still capable of working. The doctors and the dla all know she works, she's not pulling a fast one anywhere.0 -
i had a ex gf whose ex husband was in receipt of higher everything and he worked full time as a surveyor on building sites--he would hobble about on sticks and get to the site in his adapted car--this kinda makes a mockery of things
Go back to when we had separate Mobility and Attendance Allowance. Mobility Allowance (which later became DLA Mobility) was first introduced as a benefit to help people in work. In fact it was some years before people without a job were allowed to get it. If higher level DLA(Mob) is helping this bloke keep working then it is doing exactly was it was originally designed to do. An adapted car and a blue badge are things that help keep people employed and off sick benefits.
Sometimes Attendance Allowance is also used to help people who need support to keep working also (though this is less common).
DLA is not a benefit just designed for those too ill to work.
I would be really grateful if someone who used to think that you only got DLA when you couldn't work would post here, saying, "Oops, never realised that."

I found this on a disability website;
Summary of proposed review:
*
The government will introduce a medical test for people claiming Disability Living Allowance from 2013/14
*
You will have to take the test whether you are a new or existing claimant
*
The test will replace the current application forms, where an applicant does not need to have a face-to-face assessment
*
It will be similar to the Work Capability Assessment, which was introduced last year for Employment and Support Allowance, however we do not know yet exactly what form it will take
*
The system will be gradually introduced for existing claimants over 3 years from 2013, so some people may not have the new test until 2016
*
The clear intention of the government is to reduce expenditure by 20% via this policy, which suggests that a minority of current claimants are expected to lose their entitlement0
