Small town car with big boot - £4000?

I wonder if anyone can give me some advice. Its many years since I bought a car - got a Vauxhall Vectra 5 years ago and its now 10 years old and soon to be going to the great scrapyard in the sky and am now looking for another car. As I tend to bob around - school run and a short commute to work (about 5 miles or so) I'm looking for something cheap to run, easy to park, but as I have a large dog I need a biggish boot.
Any advice would be greatly received, have no idea about cars - my usual ones have been fords or vauxhalls, but am not really fussed as long as the parts are cheap and its easy on the juice. I have about £4000 to spend.
Thanks

2007 Honda Jazz would be a great choice for about 5k - my OH has had basic 1.2 for over 5 years without a hiccup, great dealers, economical and hold their value well.
If you wanted aircon, etc. an older 1.4 would be the one to go for.
Plenty of other choices out there but the Jazz has a decent boot and the 'magic' seats in the back are brilliant, you flip up the seat base and you can drop fairly large bags, boxes etc. onto the floor. Always in the top 5 in the JD Power surveys. If at first you don't succeed, try, try, try - oh bu99er that just cheat0 -

I thought of that but decided to leave it for you.;)
They look like decent little machines.
I've never heard anyone argue estates were harder to park. I've always found them easier to judge because the back window is close to the back of the car.0 -
Hmmm, like Hondas but never had one ... have had estates in the past and yes, you are right, they are easy to park, got me thinking..
thank you0 -
There are some good deals on here:

Obviously you don't have to get a dog one though, as you generally lose the rear seats!Trev. Having an out-of-money experience!
C'MON! Let's get this debt sorted!!0 -
I'd also say the Fabia Estate is a good choice.
Perhaps look at a Golf Mk4 Estate too. The diesels aren't bad on fuel0 -
Citroen Berlingo - short, but in essence being a van with windows they are great for dogs due to the extra headroom in the back.0
