  • In Martin's weekly email it gives a link to the free new mortgage guide. Is that a new guide for mortgages or just a guide to new mortgages? Given the the pdf is dated mid 2006, and 11 months ago a statement said it was being rewritten is there any chance of having something up to date?

As part of the excellent service provided by L&C (London & Country Mortgages Limited) who support the truly outstanding Mortgage Guide here, they offer a conveyancing recommendation from MyHomeMove. However, having received the quotation, I found that having approached MyHomeMove directly myself (Web Site) I obtained a cheaper quote.
Okay, it was only by £25 but all details are identical and the two quotes were within hours of each other.
I’ve no axe to grind here and I did make L&C aware of the situation but figured it best to flag it here too. If nothing else, it never hurts to do a little double checking yourself.
  • Hi was just wondering if anybody knows if it is possible to port a variable rate mortgage it is currently 2% above the base rate ie 2.5 so would really like to carry it over?

    I am looking for a bit of advice please... That is if it is at all possible what i would like to do;

I currently already own a house in my name only, but live with my girlfriend. We are however wanting to buy another house and rent the one we're in...

My question is; because I have a property in my name, is there any way I could buy the other property in my girlfriends name (as a first time buyer) therefore only paying 10% deposit but the credit score would have to be done in my name as I don't think my girlfriends wage pa would be sufficient enough for value of the property at £115k...?

So basically what I am trying to say is; use my girlfriend as a first time buyer for 10% but my salary for the mortgage...

I know if I go down the route of myself buying the property in my name I will need at least 20-25% deposit as it would 2nd mortgage... The thing is we already have 10% deposit

Apologies if you feel like banging your head against a brick wall as I think I know the answer to this as well... Just thought I'd check or if someone can suggest an alternative, bearing in mind the property is on the market now...
    Thank you

No. You have to be a party to the mortgage if you want your income taken into account.

    How do you know this?

  • Hi,

Before I start reading the mortgage guide, as someone brand new to morgages and a first time buyer, can someone tell me if the information in it is still relevant/reliable/up-to date?

    It was written in 2010, it's now 2 & 1/2 yrs later...

    Thanks
    Vix
  • Any idea when to expect the booklet version to arrive? I 'ordered' it just over 2 weeks ago.

No rush or anything! Just pleased that MSE have put the effort into providing this. Looking forward to reading it.

    Cheers.
