Failed MOT

On a number of points, but the main one was on emissions , I am driving a focus 1.6 2002 , and the test showed 0.501 when the pass rate was 0.300 or lower, now I am having a few problems with the car that seems to be known problems, I have been advised to change the speed sensor on the car as its running like a pig and the speedo is jumping up and down, do you think that will fix the problem?

The diagnostic light is on as well , and I have changed the lambda sensor, plugs ht leads and coil pack , plus the cat, but I am sure its all down to the speed sensor playing havoc with the car.

And if that is not enough I have put the wrong oil into the car 10w30 instead of 5w30 , would that have an effect on emissions ? The MOT guy said that petrol magic has been known to reduce them as well.

I am selling the car so don't want to spend more than I have too, so after a bit of advice.

Many thanks

They are all or have been suspended from accessing the DVLA database for gross misconduct!
Do you really need to ask what kind of people run parking companies?

If you got a cheapie one, or there's a problem with the car causing it to foul the sensor, then probably so. If you don't go for an OE one direct from Ford it's best to try get one of the brand used by Ford, so Bosch etc.

The oil viscosity you used shouldn't affect the emissions, unless it hasn't been fully changed in ages. A new air filter (if it hasn't been changed in a while) and thrashing it before the MOT can also help.
