Hi! I'm new to all of this so sorry if I make posting mistakes etc. :o

I have been looking at posts containing tips on kitchen worktops etc but none really have the exact answer I am looking for as the ideas are still out of budget.

My husband decided to paint our kitchen cupboards but didn't stop there and attacked the poor wood worktop!

After a lot of shouting he decided to sand it off but now it is ruined! Trouble is we are renting and now I'm worried! (My landlord said we could paint the kitchen)

The kitchen itself is tiny and falling apart anyway where it is such an old house but the worktop makes it look worse! I need a cheap but nice way of correcting it and something that isn't to hard to do as my husband is clealy useless at DIY!

We don't have a lot of money to spend and getting a new worktop and having it fitted would cost to much.

Any help would be great.:)

if he used water based paint, there is very little you can do.
    apart from paint it completely!
    Get some gorm.

Can u buy something cheap to go on top? I have looked around and found one company but they look expensive. Juts like a hard wearing sheet to cover it?

He just used normal paint which chipped etc untill I made him sand it off but now little bits of white paint have been left behind.

Guess we just going to have to pay out loads to get it fixed...

what about Fablon (sticky-back plastic) - you can get it in sheets big enough to cover a door - obviously you'd need to take care as it wouldn't stand up to being used as a chopping board but would certainly improve the look

Or try a wallpaper over the worktop and then top with a few coats of varnish - again not very durable but will improve appearances

Ooo Fablon looks good! I can see myself getting carried away and giving everything a make over! :rotfl:

Will pop to a few places tonight to have a look.

    Thank you!

Have you spoken to the LL about the damage? As I am not sure if he will be happy to have a plastic top to a real wood worksurface? So you could still get charged when you move?
What sort of wood is it, there are some cheap online suppliers, but if DH is no good at DIY, you will need a chippie to fit. Your LL may have insurance and be happy to claim, leaving you with just the excess to pay?

Spoke to my landlord and told him we wanted to "freshen up" the kitchen by covering existing worktop and fixing cupboards and he has said that is fine and to let hi know costs etc. Roll on tomorrow....DIY shops here I come!
