June is Microchipping Month

If anyone has a pet which needs chipping (and PLEASE microchip, it could save such a lot of heart ache, let alone an animal being put to sleep, if they go missing) June is subsidised chipping month. I know our vet is charging only £9 - so check out your local offers.

Thanks for this, just checked with my local vet who are doing it for £10 per animal this month. Had been meaning to do this for a while!

Do cats have to be a certain age before you can microchip them? We are picking up our kitten on Friday, but he will only be 7 weeks then. Is that too young?

Hmm, well I appreciate the article is written in good faith and I dont know whether a chip could cause cancer but they do seem to be scraping around for the horror stories dont they? One in UK, one in Tennasee and one in Australia?

It really upsets me to see stories like this based on circumstantial evidence at best putting doubt in peoples minds when microchipping has such massive benefits. Nothing is without ANY risk but where do you stop?! It reads like it was written by a Daily Mail journalist... I'd recommend anyone who is concerned by these articles read 'Bad Science' by Ben Goldacre.

I am a vet and the only problems I have seen with chips have been those that have been implanted incorrectly, either into the skin rather than beneath it or into muscle and have been solved by either antibiotics or removal of said chip and are a small price to pay for the number of reunited owners and potential lives saved.

I've had my cat chipped for 8yrs now & we've moved house too & I've not had to pay anything more than the initial chipping.
