that is true - maybe he's watched the film and thought it won't happen now...

but at least we'll find out after 3:30pm when Asheron gets home from school.

Afaik the UK has earlier targets than the EU on this. Legislation is already in to improve them, and I think it's 2016 that all new builds have to be effectively "eco" homes.

Regardless, rather non news. Even if global warming isn't happening, reduced power needs is a good thing.

Having had a skim through the document (which is more than the Daily Mail will do if they hear about this) there seems to be little to be concerned about. AFAICS, a building that is well insulated with good sized windows and a couple of solar panels on the roof would meet the criteria laid down.

Windows? ..... luxury. (best read with a Yorkshire accent). ;)

  • I would think very carefully before buying a detached rendered house with solid walls.

When you come to re-render it, the local council can insist that the walls are brought up to modern standards.

Same goes for a house with rooms in the roof and dodgy slates.

I'm missing something here ash. You talk about oil peaking and resource shortages, yet when there's a tangible plan put forward to deal with an aspect of energy use, you don't like it. What gives?

Can you find a post where I believe in Peak Oil?
As an investor, you know that any kind of investment opportunity has its risks, and investing in Stocks or Precious Metals is highly speculative. All of the content I post is for informational purposes only.

good post. We already have this regulation coming forward in the form of Code for Sustainable Homes. Code Level 6 needs to be achieved by 2016 (Zero Carbon) although i believe there is some current consultation from the Homes and Community Agency which may delay this.

Is it sustainable? No. Consider this. To build a zero carbon home adds about £30k to the build cost but the benefits above the current standard of homes build (code lvel 4) are very marginal. You would be better investing that money in to the provision of affordable housing/ infrastructure etc etc.

Ok Asheron, I admit I owe you an apology. I've gone back and done a search and can now see that you don't believe in peak oil, but you do talk about resource shortages.

However other than gold prices going up (and probably silver), I can't work out what you believe because so much of what you have posted is not by you, it is just reposted articles. So how about you answer the challenge laid down by fc, cleaver and others and tell us what real you believes in, rather than just posting articles and videos ad nauseum?

Only adds 30k if you use specific building techniques. Plus, until these techniques become more widespread, then of course they will be more expensive.
