Turnips Starting to Flower
HELP PLEASE xxxxxxxxxx
My turnips have been doing really well but some have started to flower even though the are not even the size of a golf ball ????
Does this mean that they are not going to grow any more :mad:

They have "bolted", ie run to seed
They will not grow anymore as they have fulfilled their destiny and produced flowers / seeds

that's it, they've gotten stressed somehow & in a panic to reproduce, have flowered in their first year instead of the secondThey have "bolted", ie run to seed

usually they build up a food store in the first year & use it to promote flowering & seed production in the second year, but as that 'store's' the bulbous bit we harvest & eat, we don't usually see them flowering0 -

Yes its been very hot here in the North West too, good 4 my toms, aubergines,peppers and chillis though would it be too late to plant some more or do you think the same thing would happen ???0

Turnips and swedes are a cool climate crop anyway; try sowing successionally [a pinch each month] to extend your season and you should get a better return, rather than sowing more at one time and losing the lot if something like this happens.0 -
