Studying for CIMA

Options
Hi, i'm not sure if this is the right place to post

i was wondering if it was possible to study for CIMA accounting qualifications whilst at uni...i'm doing a degree in finance accounting and management anyway which exempts me from some exams (even though i may not be exempt until i fully graduate)

Can you get weekend courses, (specifically in Nottingham)

thanks

not sure if it's possible - but i bet nottingham careers service will be able to help.

i also thought that a lot of companies paid for you to get the qualifications after you start working there? so you wouldn't have to do that yourself.....?

I'm not totally sure about CIMA, but with CIPFA and ACA you need to meet the requirements to start the course. In most cases that will be having completed a degree.

The best method is to complete your degree and try and ensure you get at least a 2.1. In your final year look for trainee accountancy vacancies and you should find an employer who will pay your study fees for you, whilst also giving you a salary.

Be warned though it can be pretty difficult to get on to a trainee placement as it is very competitive.

To start CIMA you will need to have completed your degree. Think you need a minimum 2.2 classification.

In Nottingham CIMA is offered by BPP and FTC Kaplan. Both are based in the City Centre and both offer weekend and evening courses.

CIMA courses can be expensive, so I would recommend trying to find an employer who will pay for you to study.

    Good luck! x

Im sure you will be able to do a 'junior' (cant recall correct term) CIMA course that will allow you to start the full course.

Its very similar to early years in uni so im told, have a look online.

I looked at this option a couple of years ago in uni.

If you are already doing an accountancy degree, it is better to complete the degree and then apply for exemptions for CIMA. After completion of your degree you may find you only have to do the final CIMA papers with exemptions for the other papers.
I suppose you can commence CIMA now but you will have to do the lower level papers which you would have been exempted from anyway at the completion of your degree.
Also you can consider ACCA as well.

The entry requirement for the CIMA Professional Qualification is the CIMA Certificate in Business Accounting. You could do this now, but considering the cost and likelihood that you would be exempt by the end of your degree, I really wouldn't recommend it.

You can get more information from http://www.cimaglobal.com/cps/rde/xchg/SID-0AAAC544-DA9773FC/live/root.xsl/1325.htm about CIMA entry routes, and on https://www.bpp.com will provide details on the cost of the courses.

As far as I know you would not be exempt from any exams until you have actually finished your degree.

You don't need to have a degree to start at the foundation level. However you may be exempt from the certificate level exams once your degree is complete.

    djw 1 cked,

You have misquoted me. I was referring specifically to the OP, and if my post is read in full this would be evident.
