selling property - what to do with equity?

Decided to sell my property, for a few reasons. Happy to lodge/rent as a single person. Only see a need for property down the line if meet somebody/family etc.

So I'm gonna be left with around 40k. Wondering what my options are as I'm not used to having any more than 1-2k in the bank.

I'd like it to be a vehicle to provide me an extra income, even if its fairly small to start with.

So what are the options other than a buy to let property, as this is all I've known so far? Is it a savings account with the best interest? Could I invest in shares or something and take a bit of risk?

Thanks for any replies just a quick overview would be great as I just need some options to look into. It will be a few months before I have the money.

You want to be buying London 'good delivery' gold bullion. After the Euro collapses in the next couple of years, everyone will see that QEed fiat currencies are worthless - only gold will be a store of value through the coming economic upheavals.

That's interesting, and exactly what my 'new world order' mate advises, although we never know if he is talking sense or if the smoking has messed with his mind. Anyone else agree with investing in gold??
