Skoda Fabia - 2nd gear crunching
Have a 2006 1.4TDI Skoda Fabia - about 24,000miles. For the past while it occassionally makes a horrible noise going in/out of 2nd gear. Has been getting worse in last week. Planning to take to garage, but looking for advice on what problem might be and likely costs to repair (just so I am prepared). ALso wondereing whether best to go to Skoda dealership or just to another local recommended garage. Many thanks!
Waddle you do eh?

Another forum to try asking on is https://www.briskoda.net
I would recommend going to a VAG specialist rather than a Skoda dealer.0 -

If the vehicle has been serviced with Skoda since new, there is a very good chance you will get a 'goodwill' fix due to the low mileage, and fact that this obviously shouldn't happen after 24k or 4yrs. You may not even have to pay at all, so definately not worth taking to a VAG specialist who will charge you regardless.
Sounds like the synchro is mashed. It may mean getting the gearbox out to strip and check, but the part itself is fairly cheap, so hopefully not a big (expensive) job.:A Luke 6:38 :AThe above post is either from personal experience or is my opinion based on the person God has made me and the way I understand things. try blipping the throttle as you change gear if the crunch is less/goes away then its the synchro which is does sound like. Not a expensive part but does require the removal of the gear box.0
