HSBC any good for a current account?

After reading more and more about Santander's poor customer service, I am thinking of changing banks. I am currently with A&L and have been very happy with them, but as they move closer to becoming Santander and everything that goes with it (or doesn't in some people's case) I might be inclined to move.

I had an account with Halifax for many years and they never had any interest in helping me out when I've needed them so have been looking at HSBC.

Their account looks good for my needs, so I want other's opinions about the account and HSBC's customer service experiences.

Those with an HSBC account (not business account users), would you recommend them?

been banking with them since I was 16, so 9 years, not a single problem.
I tried A&L and quickly ran back to HSBC

I certainly would but they do require £500 a month to go into your account.

Why not try the Internet banking from HSBC "First Direct" excellent customer service, very efficient but you will need to have a spotless credit report.

Had my main account with HSBC since I was a student, cant fault them at all? I have an account with A&L and although had no trouble with them the internet banking isnt a patch on HSBC's, HSBC internet banking is very good I find

I was always happy with the customer service I got from HSBC. I haven't been with them for a while though, their accounts don't offer great interest rates. I would always be happy to go back to them though, if they had something I wanted. I think you can get a better deal on your HSBC mortgage if you have your current account with them.

If you can guarantee £500 a month into your account, HSBC are probably the best choice :)
  • I've had an account with HSBC since 2003 (student account, then graduate account and now a bank account) and have never had a serious problem with them at all.

The one time I had an issue (they charged me for withdrawing abroad when they shouldn't have) it was dealt with very swiftly and efficiently and I had the withdrawal charges reversed within a couple of days.

    I recommend them wholeheartedly :)

Yes I recommend HSBC too! I have a current account with them I switched over from Lloyds TSB a few years ago and they beat Lloyds hands down on customer service/telephone banking & online banking. I never have to wait long either if I call up with a query.

that's actually what they told me too, but i never put that amount in there as HSBC is not my main account. they said otherwise the account would close or something but that never happened. I have only upgraded it to advance recently to get a better mortgage deal with them. customer service wise, quite all right. but still prefer Lloyds myself.

I've been with them 15 years, never had a problem with them. From what I hear from others, I'm glad I'm not with the "Shabbey" or Lloyds. Natwest seem to be ok as well though
