are we entitled to income based JSA??

My partner is unemployed, is currently on contribution based JSA but that is due to end in a couple of weeks. He has been given form to apply for income based JSA but has been told we probably won't get it because I work (30 hours a week). He has been told that because I work more than 24 hrs a week he will not get the JSA.
Is this correct? If so, will we get any extra tax credits instead? (We have 1 child).
thanks

Is it the fact you work more than 24 hours per week, or the total household income that would disqualify him? Once you have a change in your income, you can call CTC and inform them of the change, the only drawback being that if you get an increased rate for a few months, and then he finds work - you may find you have an overpayment at the end of the year to pay back.0
