SOGA takes care of that as its a business seller. I had phone call from a guy who bought an "ex-demo from leading chain" laptop off me on Tuesday. There was an option to register with Toshiba for an extended warranty. When he rang Toshiba, he was told they offer a month and the extended was to give 12 months.:eek::eek:
I told him his rights under SOGA, even for buying second hand goods, and that as I use it as a stick with retailers myself it would be a bit hypocritical not to abide by it. Gave him some hints on things not to do such as blocking fan vents and things to do such as run a can of compressed air through the heatsink every few months and that was that.
I'm banging on but under SOGA, you have rights. You may need to fight for them but they're there. I'd expect 6 months guarantee as a minimum.0 -

and I was referring to your comment about being confiscated by Customs....
It was immigration. There have been many stories about the massive increase in Homeland Security in the USA taking laptops off travellers entering the USA in order to inspect them with no clue as to when you'd get it back, if ever.0 -

I'm sure this aimed at single male travellers and not at all apt in relation to this thread.0
