What breakdown recovery for me?
My requirement
If car breaks down anywhere in mainland UK, I want it to be towed to a garage of my choice [which is nearest main dealer to my home].
I also want cover when I am broken down in my home.
Is AutoAid the best?
One issue in home start, they say they'd cover max £65 under this condition.
Any other cheaper alternative [via cashback etc]?

Happiness is buying an item and then not checking its price after a month to discover it was reduced further.

There are plenty of threads re breakdown cover if you wish to search;)
But not wishing to be rude I use Autoaid for me and my wife which gives us cover on the 3 cars we own. My son and my mother, however, use IC breakdown which provides cover for the car and any driver. IC breakdown are actually very good, my mother having called them out twice last year.
Alternatively if you shop at Tesco use your Tesco points for cheap breakdown cover.:D0 -
It might be worth looking at Swinton breakdown cover. Also, if you go through Quidco (I think) you also get 20% site cashback. I was sold RAC breakdown cover with my recent insurance and it did not include homestart, whereas Swinton cover did and it was cheaper than the RAC.0

Depends what you consider to be important. I haven't seen the stats for response times but as you can arrange recovery with anyone then I would think the response time should not be an issue. They are cheaper than any others I've seen. The claim process is straightforward and quick. If you don't want to have to pay and then claim back then it's not for you. From the Autoaid website...

If the vehicle cannot be repaired at the scene of the breakdown, we will arrange and reimburse any reasonable cost of taking the vehicle, you and up to 5 passengers from the place where the vehicle has broken down to anyone place you choose.

Again from the website...

If the vehicle breaks down at your home or within one mile of your home, we will arrange help and reimburse any call-out fees and labour charges needed to start the vehicle. If the vehicle cannot be repaired quickly at the scene of the breakdown, we will reimburse the reasonable cost of taking the vehicle to the nearest available garage. The maximum reimbursement under this benefit ONLY is £65.

Only a problem if you think it would cost more than £65 for a local garage to come out to look at the car, try to fix it and if not possible quickly then recover to their garage.loose does not rhyme with choose but lose does and is the word you meant to write.0
