Help! Trying for a baby

Hi there,

Really sorry if I have posted this in the wrong area but I am kind of new to this whole thing!

Basically, me and my husband have a gorgeous 3 year old son and are trying for another baby. I had my implant out in March and although periods are supposed to stop while having the implant, mine never did and were very regular. My last period was on the 16th of May. This works out that I am about 2 weeks late.

I have done a million tests, even spent a fortune on a Clear Blue digital test which came back negative. Went to the doctors today and the test was negative again.

I have had some pains in my stomach and slight spotting, also put on 5 lbs in 2 weeks (I only weigh 9st 7lbs so quite a large increase for me!) so everything is indicating that I am but the tests aren't.

Can anyone help with stories that their tests were negative too but were actually pregnant and how many weeks late does it usually show up?? It showed up straight away with our little boy!

Many thanks for taking the time to read this.

Clare x

It's very rare for a hpt to come up negative several times and a doctor's test as well and you turn out to be pregnant. The most healthy thing to do is accept that you're not pregnant so you can move on and not stress your body out.

It really just sounds as though this is your body adjusting to coming off the implant. It's so hard to compare symptoms of pregnancy with something else as well. Pains in your stomache aren't a common pregnancy symptom and gaining 5 pounds in 2 weeks isn't either. Most women may gain about 5 pounds in the first trimester though.

Hopefully your period will show up so you can try again. I'm sure it will but just about anything can throw it off. If you don't get your period in another week, make sure you talk to your doctor and see if they have something that will help bring it on.

I wish you all the best hun.

I had the implant and for the last few months I had a constant period. When I had mine removed I came off and didn't have another period for 3 months. Just sounds like your body is readjusting itself. Sorry it's not what you want to hear!

Home bargains sell really cheap pregnancy tests which are just as effective as the posh ones. If you're going for the multiple test approach best way to save your money.

Search in the home bargains thread for the cost.

Before we saw these my OH bought them online.

Unfortunately going back to your point, it is probably unlikely that you are pregnant unless hormones are really low, but keep trying and best of luck.

I did. With DS, I had 4 negative tests over 4 months, and all showed up negative. He showed up fine and healthy. My GP said it was possible to have a false negative if HCG levels were very low, and that next time I should use the cheap strip tests, as they are more sensitive.

With this pregnancy, I got positive results quite soon, but was using the cheap tests due to the problems last time. They sell on Ebay for 50p for 10 plus postage. It might be worth a try if you really think you might be pg.
  • Hi

Thanks for your replies. I'm not in a rush to get pregnant it's just since my periods started when I was 13 I have only ever been late/missed when I was pregnant with my son. I will keep you updated anyway!

    Thanks again
