Firefox Problem

I had virus that would not allow me to browse anything now cleared by a friend.
I cannot access Firefox which I have used for years as this message appears.
Firefoox is configured to use a proxy server that is refusing connections.
Talk Talk told me to uninstall Firefox and then reinstall but as this has not worked, they are unable to help me further.
Can anyone help please as I am not very technical.
Thanks.

It sounds as though not all of the virus remains were removed - your proxy settings are set through: Tools, options, advanced tab. Click on 'settings' under connections at the top, and set the proxy to 'no proxy'. See if that fixes it.

In Firefox go to Tools menu > Options > Advanced Tab > Network and click the "Settings" button in the Connection box, set it to No Proxy.

If this doesn't work, go to Bookmarks menu > Organise Bookmarks and hit Import and Backup then Backup. Save that file somewhere because you're about to clear your Firefox profile which will lose all your settings.

    1. Uninstall Firefox.
    2. The following path varies by Windows version, this is for Vista:
Go to My Computer > C:\ drive > Users > #your Windows login# > App Data* > Roaming > Mozilla > now delete the Firefox folder.
    * This is a "hidden folder" so you may need to find the option to show hidden files in order to be able to see it.
    3. Reinstall Firefox. Again go to organise bookmarks and this time you can restore that backup you made.

Uninstalling and reinstalling Firefox doesn't work since all settings are stored in your Firefox profile. Close Firefox, delete everything inside "%appdata%/Mozilla/Firefox" and start Firefox again.

This is why the variable %appdata% exists. It works on any Windows ;)

To run the shortcut mentioned by tronator, enter %appdata% at start > run %appdata% enter on XP.

Sorry but I did this and it was not recognised on my computer.
I then ran search and no results.

Click on "Start", then "Run..." and type in "%appdata%" and hit ENTER. This should open an Explorer window with a lot of folders, one of them is called Mozilla. In there, there is another one called Firefox.

Delete this folder (or rename it if you want to keep your data) and start Firefox again. Now Firefox will create a new profile for you.
