hi i'm wondering if anyone can help me, I was bought a digital camera for xmas 2009 from Tesco online, a Sony Cybershot. Unfortunately at the weekend I dropped it into a glass of water (or vodka and lemonade, im not quite sure!)
I was wandering if anyone knows if I am able to send it back and claim a new one or if because it is water damaged I am not entitled to anything. I have not filled out any guarentee or anything but I am pretty sure all electrical goods have a year guarentee?
if anyone has any answers that would be much appreciated.

Sorry, you can't claim under the guarantee even if you have filed the card in.
You damaged it. It didn't become faulty.
Does it say in the instructions 'will work after you drop it in water or even a vodka and lemonade'?British Ex-pat in British Columbia!0 -
ouch, was only asking for advice, no need to be sarcastic!
thanks anyways0 -
Covered on your house insurance?"...IT'S FRUITY!"0

Unless it is designed as an underwater (not under vodka) camera, the guarantee will not cover this. It is your fault, not a manufacturing fault. You may be able to claim accidental damage from your house insurance, but the policy excess may not make this worthwhile.
Do not try to switch the camera on. Leave it in the airing cupboard for a few days to let it dry out. I did this with a camera I dropped in the river while trying to take an arty shot and the camera is still working two or three years later.0 -
If it was just water, put it in the airing cupboard for a couple of days (open up the battery compartment to let the water evaporate) & see if that works (it works for mobiles that have been dropped in water)
If not & you can't see any damage try taking it back to Tesco's & just say that it stopped working, in my experience they always take back stuff that’s under a year old (so do Argos)0 -
My other advice is to ignore the second part of Spank's post, this is deception!0
