Help RE: Holiday in/around Lisbon, Portugal

Hi Guys,

Looking to go to either Italy or Portugal for holiday end Aug/begin Sept, but cant decide hence the two posts to get a bit of an idea on both.

We have been to the Algarve a couple of years ago and like the look of doing Lisbon for a couple of days then a beech/chilled holiday. couple of questions:

1. What is the weather like there (when we went this time couple of years ago in the algarve was only OK).
2. Where is the best place to stay? good selection of restaurants and nice beach etc?
3. What is it like price wise? pint of beer etc? is it similar to the Algarve

thanks, any other advice appreciated.

Get an inclusive ticket for the excellent tram and underground system and dont miss coffe and several cakes in the Custart tart factory at Belem!

    Three tips:

    1) Get the train from the station at the port out along the coast to Cascais/Estroil. Really nice seaside towns but not spoiled by the "Brits Abroad"

    2) Get a train up into the mountains to the town of Sintra http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Sintra - the palaces are amazing.

    3) Explore the Old Town at night. Loads of little bars and restaurants.

Lisbon really is an undiscovered secret. It's a cheaper, quieter and smaller version of Barcelona.
