OP your problem unfortunately is much the same for all ages at the moment.
    It's someone else's fault.

And that attitude is exactly what I am talking about.

Maybe she should think about what is wrong with her own CV; skills and experience rather than deciding to blame the recruiters.

As you say at 50 she has a good few years left in her so why on earth would an employer choose a weaker overall candidate? They wouldn't

Any time I have interviewed an older person they have on most occasions come across to me as people who expect to manage and have people do the work rather than do it themselves. The days of secretarial staff doing the typing etc is long gone and even management these days are expected to get involved in such work.

I hope you are not on money saving expert giving these opinions while you are at work.

That would completely void your general put down on people over 50.

Why would an employer employ you to sit at work and make these posts?;)
Please ignore those people who post on this forum who deliberately try to misinform you. Don't be bullied by them, don't be blamed by them. You know who I mean.
You come here for advice, help and support- thats what I and like minded others will try to do.

  • Mr David Brent, et all..including Judas who seems to find time to reply to this forum in work time..erum..Judas and employers need to be more specific about the jobs advertised and what it entails.Dont dismiss us over 50's who really need an income because of say redundancy, and who are pepared to offer a whole whelt of experience if properly managed.
Yes Ive considered setting up something for the over 50's..any ideas..

They should be specific for everyone, not just people over the age of 50

Also at the end of the day if the employer gets who they want for the money they want then really they don't need to be more specific

I never said you didn't but asking an employer to be more specific is not going to benefit people over that age, but also your arguement that the over 50's want more and price themselves out of the market is hardly the fault of the employer....it is the people over 50 who expect a to higher wage.

Annie, What job sector are you looking at you need to be a bit more specific?

Are you applying to both large and smaller companies? Lots of people don't realise but 98% of companies in the UK employ 50 or less staff. So if you are applying to just the large companies you are only covering 2% of the companies with jobs, thus missing out on 98% of potential jobs with smaller companies.
