Overdraft charges and switching account

Rite,
Finally getting back on my feet. Ive spoke to my creditors and theyre cutting me a break so I can get back on my feet. My bank, Natwest, is costing me a fortune in charges so I have decided to switch to another provider and then claim my charges back from Natwest. The problem is I have a £1600 overdraft which I am over the limit. I wont be able to get that kind of overdraft with a new account so if I did claim my charges back and Natwest decide to close my account, can they demand the overdraft balance back in full immediately or is there some way around this? As I could not afford that kind of money in one go.
Any help would be really really appreciated.
Thanks
