Help me please car impounded!

Options
Hi I am a motor trader and presumed my insurance was upto date.

Presumed i say as 1st June I received a letter from insurance saying the monthly payment had not gone through. On the 2nd June it showed as going through so i did nothing.

Today im out in a sales car and i get pulled over. The police officer informs me its not on the database. I said "it sure is".

But hell no the insurance co unbeknown to me had cancelled the policy as Mays payment hadnt gone through the one on the 2nd June was for junes - so my error which is now looking costly.

Anyway they impounded the vehicle.

I have now renewed my traders policy with another company.

I just rang the staion (police) to say i have to wait for my new traders policy to come through which will have my name on it.

The lady on the desk informs me as it is not my name on the V5 i cant get it back

How can this be i am a motor trader and the v5 is in the previous owners name not mine.

Please anyone any ideas????

I have the MOT, the V5 and the police paperwork but what now.

They want £150 release and £20 daily charge.

PS I have contacted the Insurance Ombudsman also about the insurance company.

Thankyou

Your a trader? Put the V5C "in trade" (section 9) and take your policy along and get the car.

^ what they said - I guess you've been keeping the V5's and changing from previous owner to new owner when you should be registering them as a trader. I'm surprised no-one buying or selling you a car has pulled you up on this simple point.

Have you declared the car to the MID, certain vehicles need to be declared.

If your not sure, speak to your Insurers.

Here is a leaflet that may help you http://www.mib.org.uk/NR/rdonlyres/A0DFD884-48CB-4E51-96B7-CEB39DB8A1C4/0/MotorTradefinal.pdf

You didn't pay the insurance so they quite rightly didn't insure you so I don't know where the ombudsman can help.

You're a trader so should have sent off the yellow part of the V5 to DVLA. Had you done this, the database would have shown the keeper to be "With Trade".

So although you're a motor trader, it appears you're not a particularly adept one and now you're going to be paying the cost. As well as the £150 plus £20, don't be surprised if you find yourself with 6 points in the near future.

If the Insurance company cancelled the policy in May due to non-payment, why did they take a payment out of your bank account on the 2nd June?
