House share and possible credit?

I'm moving out of my house share on 17th July, the remaining people will still be living there and they are getting someone to replace me.

All the utility direct debits are all in my name and come out of my account on the 1st of each month.

I will be paying the last installments on 1st July then will be calling all utility provider to cancel direct debits and get my name off their records (I dont want to be chased for outstanding payments should remaining people not pay)

However, what if (in the rare case) some of the utilities have credit on them? Where would I stand?

I'm not expecting any credit but when I set the direct debits up they did over estimate some payments just to keep it safe.

If I call up and ask if there is any credit on any of the accounts, can they pay it out there and then and we can just split it fairly before I leave or will credits only be issued when we close the accounts?

If that is the case, I dont want to be out of my fair share of the credit due if its paid later and I'm not made aware.

Just trying to cover myself here from every angle so all feedback is appreciated :)

Tell them you are moving out, give them a reading and ask for a bill there and then - if there is a credit they'll send it to you as the name on the account - they might put it back via the DD.

What you do with the credit is then up to you.

If there is an outstanding balance, cancel the DD....

    Hi guys

    Thanks for the replies!

I will be paying them the last payment on 1st July so will call them the week after with all the updated readings and find out what the bill situation is

    Thanks again :)
