Just been issued one of the new 'credit card' driving licences but cannot imagine it lasting ten years. Any idea where I would get a cover for it?

I have looked for a cover as well. I can't find anything suitable. Would also be interested if anyone has any ideas0

Thanks for the offer Bingo, but I have to point out:
Hi, Martin’s asked me to post this in these circumstances: For legal reasons I have to discourage swapping, buying and selling on the forum (please see this rule). While it can be a very useful way of saving money it relies on a certain amount of trust between members and as such can cause problems (and has in the past). If you have any questions about this policy please email abuse@moneysavingexpert.com.
Sorry!!, nice thought though0 -

Thanks Patchman. But a fiver seems steep for a bit of plastic. Will keep an eye out for something similar and come back if I find anything.0

hi there son just got his new licence 3 weeks ago and no cover ,is the dvlaN/I that hard up now they cant supply the covers any more,or is this another money making thing as they know that if we dont have the covers we will have to replace the licence sooner than 10 years so more money for them, just as a side thing to this, do you all know if you pass your Driving test now you have to pay for new licence ,used to be free, and to make it worse they take of the years you have had the pro licence for ,so say you have tryed for 4 years to pass your test then they will only give you a full licence for 6 years and you have had to pay for it twice0

It is only the first full licence you need to pay for (an 10 year renewals I think), and replacements for any lost or damaged ones after that. They supply them free of charge when you change address.
I got my first full drivers licence through in 2002 and it was for the full 10 years. I had had my provisional since 1998 but they did not deduct the 4 years. I would suggest that if the first full is for anything less than 10 years I would be contacting them and asking if it is correct.
There is no need to carry both counterparts of the drivers licence with you at all times. I keep the paper counterpart safe in a file at home and the photocard in my purse/card wallet. As it is very rarely required to be produced there is no reason that it should not last the full 10 years. If you are stopped by Police and they want both part they can issue with an HO/RT1 to produce both parts at a police sation specified by you within 7 days - so even then there is no reason to carry both bits with you unless producing.
Hope this helps, the initial fee and 10 year renewal, whatever it is now, is only paid for once unless it is the carelessness of the holder that makes it required to be replaced due to loss or damage. I haven't splashed out on one of these protective covers as I really don't see the need!"Life may not always be the party you wish for, but whilst here you may aswell dance"!!!

hi there all was changed this year they took 3 years of sons new 10 year licence because of him holding a pro licence for that time and also he had to pay again to get his new full driving licence, now a side thing again anyone passing test now you have to watch if you want to tow anything ,could not believed what the law says about towing you need to get things weighted ,on the web site it says you "should be able to tow a caravan"but its the drivers job to know if he is under the weight,is it worth taking any chances0
