what does trust fund mean?

my friends 13 year old son was born with a bad heart sadly he passed away in hospital after being admitted for a stomach bug. without going into details theres gonna be an inquest. 5 weeks after his death the corroner got in touch with my friend to say that the trust fund people are coming out to see them, then straight after he will be.
this has caused great upset as 1st reaction is omg is it about compensation? has the hospital messed up?....
what does trust fund mean, ive tried to search the internet and all i keep coming up with is childs trust fund where childs estate gets passed over to parents. can only assume they mean the lump sum of 250 the goverment gives the child when they are born. but my friends son didnt have a childs trust fund as he was born before they started this....
any answers would be great 4 peace of mind. thanx in advance x

I would assume that the 'trust' part would be The Primary Care Trust that is responsible for the hospital, but in conjunction with the word 'fund' I'm not sure.

Are you sure they said 'fund' and your friend didn't mishear them?

  • yes it is possible. everything is hard to take in at the moment 4 them....what would that mean if it is the primary care trust?

to be honest it sounds like a support group which is funded by a 'trust fund' style charity like the Prince's trust is a trust fund charity

on a £100 shop you might on average get 70 items save
    10p per product = £7 a week ~ £28 a month
    20p per product = £14 a week ~ £56 a month
30p per product = £21 a week ~ £84 a month (or in other words one weeks shoping at the new price)
  • thank you that has made things more clearer xx

Kitty - if your friend rings the Coroner's office and speaks to the Coroner's Assistant they will be happy to explain everything to her that she doesn't understand.
A word of caution: if the 'Trust' people means the Hospital Trust people your friend would be wise to have at the very least an independent witness to any discussion. In her shoes I would only speak to them in the presence of my solicitors. If it's a minor matter then no harm done, if it's a major matter she will need a legal bod to help her through any discussion, and bring a halt to it if need be.
.................:)....I'm smiling because I have no idea what's going on ...:)
