Finding out my number

I have just got the keys for my new rented house, and I plugged my phone in and the line was dead, which I expected, then I noticed the idiot previous tenants actually cut half the line off and took it with them (?) but anyway, I have no idea how to find out what my phone number is for the house, so I can get reconnected and get broadband. I can't call out anywhere, there is no indication which company they were with, and they are not listed in the BT phone book. It's an interesting dilemma!! I can't figure out how to discover the number. Anyone??:(
