Leeks!
Hi All, i bought some reduced leek seedlings at the weekend. i read on here somewhere that it's possible to plant them in an unused corner until later in the year and then move them into my raised beds once there is more space. is that correct? if so, do I need to seperate them out and plant them in the ground? Can they stay in the packaging or if they need planting out can I leave them in clumps? Also, if I'm planting them but then wanting to move them later how deep do I need to plant them?
Thanks.
Thanks.

Hi
I planted my leeks two weeks ago and read in gardening mag that they should go out in July but they are doing well.
I have no idea if you can move them later but they need to be dropped into a hole (use an old broom handle if you do not have a dibber) then filled with just water. I would think you can keep them in the tray for a few more weeks instead of having to move them.
Best of luck, Im sure someone will have more info than me.0 -
Sorry, just noticed you said seeds and not plants. I would rather plant them into trays to start with but am no expert. I tend to grow most things in pots first but people have told me there is no need to do this as they will do just as well put straight into ground.0

If you read my posts, you can see how I done them with pics. These are a hardy plant and usually sown at end of summer and then by spring time you shall have what I had.Kind Regards

Yes I've done that before, take them out of the container, put them in a spare bit of ground/pot, plant to the sameish depth as they are now, but try to get them into final place by end sept at the latest.
Only thing I noticed was that I had to wait 'till the end of the harvest season before I got a good size, got lots of smaller ones though before, which was fine with me.0
