hi guys, ok so reading all your comments, i think im in way over my head,

i have told her to take it to our local pc repair centre. hopefully they can sort it

thanks for trying to help us though

Please...are you telling us that stating the brand and model of the machines is 'over your head'?

Now it will cost her a fair amount of cash for nothing.

not saying that stating the brand name is a problem, its just when people started talking about COA, then what type of disc is made, then new drivers, hidden partitions, then BIOS.

i dont understand any of these terms so thought the safest thing was to get a professionsl to sort it
trying to lose 3 stone by end of 2014;)

The COA is the STICKER on the bottom of her laptop. The brand and model name will tell us the rest.

    To patchy987,

I'm sure it feels a bit daunting to begin with but you'll be allowed to ask as many questions as you want and people here will be more than happy to help in a step by step method which you can understand.

Also with various techies around, the techies will start arguing if they think the advise is wrong etc. so you will have various inputs rather than one technician at a PC repair shop!

If you posted the brand name and the model number of the machine, and exactly what happems, does Windows start, can anything be done with the machine if it boots? there are many on here who will help and explain in simple language what this all means, and how to sort problems out. For instance a hidden partition is like a locked tool shed with various emergency items locked in it, ready to be opened with the key (the rescue disk), and used to repair Windows.

Also incase this isn't obvious there will be a code on the COA sticker on the bottom of the laptop, you'll need to enter this code during a 'normal' windows install but don't post it on the internet or the whole world will be able to make off with your windows license.
