in Energy
I have now found out from my supplier my average yearly useage and I am determined now to save energy (and also costs!) My gas bills are ridiculous and I admit I am a very cold person but I have now fin tuned my boiler for the hot water and am determined not to put the heating on until we cant stand it any more! I am also looking into changing suppliers but will take some time about that step! I switched off everything yesterday except fridge/freezer ,alarm clock/radio and house alarm to see how much would be used in a day. from 7.00 till 5 it used about 1 unit then until 8.30 (tv on etc) used total of 3 units so was pleased with that. Just have to get my gas consumption down now! I am treating it as a bit of a challenge just to see if it varies at all with the small measures i will make like turning off radiators in unused rooms and using the timer to get it on and off at later times.

Hi Mrs. Baggins.....insulation is number one, radiator valves as well. Double curtains or lined curtains, another.
Lots of measures(like double glazing) don't have a decent payback time, tho I wouldn't want to go back to iron framed windows.
My unused bedroom radiators are set on frost free, and the windows have bubble wrap stretched over the frames, using transparent double sided carpet tape.
From outside, can hardly tell. Lots more tips on here.
Lots of grants available too, see stickies.0 -
thanks. already have double glazing luckily and have really heavy curtains but I am such a wimp I really need my heat!Luckily my OH is very warm blooded and he doesnt notice. Have bought some really nice fleece boot/slippers from primark last year (£3) and will just start wearing jumpers and things instead of turning the heating on. I have already started turning off the lights even if I am out of the room for a couple of minutes! and closing doors! as you said you cant stop........0
