logbook and road tax

Hello,
i recently bought a used car, it came with no road tax. Also I only received the first page of the logbook (v5c) so sections 1-8 only, not the slip bit. I now want to get road tax for the vehicle. I have MOT and car insurance.
Will i have to just send off the v5c and wait for it to return before I can get road tax? Or if I go to the DVLA office, and post off the v5c through them, could they give me Road Tax there and then?
If it is the case where I have wait until the logbook comes back,
how long does this usually take if you've sent it through the DVLA?
Help please??

You shouldn't have the first page; the seller should have filled that bit in and sent it off, leaving you with section 10.
Has it been signed by the seller?
Your only option to tax it (other than sending the first page off and waiting for new V5) would be to go back to the seller and do a swap, get that section 10 and take that to the post office.0 -
Yes it has been signed by the seller, he said that he didn't have the section 10, it got lost and that I should sent off the main bit myself.0

did you hpi the car when you bought it?0

Yes I did do that, and it came back fine. I also have all the MOT's and service history.0

I would go to the post office and see if you can tax the car, they will be able to give the best advise... the dvla website does not seem to cover this situation. You have all of the other docs so it is not as though you are acting fraudulently and have nothing to gain.0

Hi I work in car sales admin if you have the front bit of the V5 fill it in with your name and address and take it to the post office along with your MOT and insurance and you will be able to tax it there straightaway and the post office will send your V5 for you to DVLA, you will then recieve the log book in your name through the post.0
