How easy is it to create a back up copy of this laptop I want to buy? I have been reading the review on Pixmania and the reviewer said he spent over 5 hours to create the disk and he wasted a lot of time. Being a newbie to computer I am a bit concerned in case I will encounter some problems creating the disk. Thanks

  • Dear loulou41,

Download yourself a copy of Drive Image XML which is a free package. Use this to backup your PC to your DVD drive or any other drive for that matter and you should be good to go.

If it takes you more than a couple of hours tops to do this fresh out of the box, I would be very surprised.

    Regards

    Simon.

    - Asus always put a [ hidden ] recovey partition on the drive
    - you can use this to restore to factory [ when you bought it ] status
    - Win7 has a good and safe backup restore system & restore disk

You can use the Win7 backup in a variety of ways / DVD / external HDD etc. The easiest for less experienced users is to buy a USB stick and back up to that !

NOTE don't put 200 GIG of games on it before you back up or the USB will cost £megga.

In short you don't need a backup but if you insist use Win7. The Pixmania reviewer must have fallen out of his cot, lost his bottle, and had a very bad day and several dirty nappies when he wrote that review !

    Hope this helps

Thanks, this is the review from the Pixmania purchaser. Being not so experienced, therefore I will do it using USB stick I have got 4gb, will that be enough or I can use dvd rw+ or cd? I do not know the difference between using dvd or cd to burn. Is it just a matter of following instructions on the screen? I think I will just leave it. I am still debating between this Asus and Acer Aspire 5732Z. Can you help me make up my mind, pl. I think the Asus has got better specifications? Thanks

The product comes without recovery disks and a recommendation to create your own. This disk creation process has been a nightmare - had I known I would not have bought this product. It took 5.5 hours and wasted 4 DVD-R disks in the process - burnining one and getting to the end of a checking process and then rejecting and having to re-load again. So in creating 4 recovery disks, I have wasted 4 and taken 5.5 hours of my time.
