Cash account that allows online transferring?

I recently moved all my accounts to Lloyds as i was having loads of problems with Halifax.

Lloyds would only let me have a cash account due to my poor credit. This means I have no switch, cheque book etc. Another downside is that I can only take money out at a lloyds cash point - and I dont live too near one!

Now I like to be organised with my money to avoid getting back into debt. I have savings accounts for different things ie car, holiday, emergencies. However lloyds has made this impossible for me - I cant set up standing orders from my cash account and I cant carry out any online transfers!
Basically to do anything I need to go in to a branch and that is not easy for me to do.

Due to all this my savings in lasped and my credit card is rising (i use it to pay for things due to not having a switch card!).

Can someone tell me who will give me an account that would be practical for me?? I'm not so bothered about the switch card as long as I can get money out at any cash point and can transfer money online.

You can register for Phone banking with Lloyds and they will do transfers and set up standing orders, I also have a cash account and have found the phone banking to be superb.
    Hope this helps

  • You can set up standing orders with a cash account.
You can also register for limited internet banking and telephone banking.
If you have no LTSB branch near to where you live why open the account with them when you knew that you would not be able to use any other cashpoint machine?

I had no idea what i wouldnt be able to use other cashpoint machines. i was never told this.

I do have a branch near me but I cant get to the bank during opening times due to work etc. It would be the same with any bank, hence why I need my online banking. I cant set up standing orders online which is what I really need to be able to do.

I have today registered for phone banking so hopefully that will be ok for a month or so. Lloyds have told me today that I should be upgraded in 1 to 2 months so I just have to bear with it for now.

Oh dear Kit, why did they open a cash account for you in first place?
Cash accounts are primarily for people who fail the bank's credit scoring. What will change in the next 1 or 2 months?

I do fail the credit scoring, but due to the circumstances behind my bad credit, they will upgrade my account based on how I have conducted my account since I opened it.
They will upgrade me as soon as I have:
    1. Had over £500 put in my account each month over 3 consecutive months
    2. Had at least 1 direct debit come out each month over 3 consecutive months
    3. Not bounced any payments or gone overdrawn since opening the account.

My 3rd wage payment should go in at the end of september/beginning of October; however they assess at the end of each month so I may have to wait an extra month depending on if my wages go in before or after they assess my account.

Can you tell that I managed to get hold of a nice member of staff at Lloyds today?!

    LLoyds cash account is awful,

I had one and closed it recetnley, do you also know that you cant use "counter services" ??

I went in to pay a bill cos I couldnt online (after ebing told I had full internet banking by the women who opened it, and then later admitting she had made an error") anyway when i went in I was told they cant do it, as cash account customers dont have a counter service!!!

Best Basic accoutn for online is Nationwide, full functional internet banking and use any cash machine.

think it was the flex account I opened, make sure you ask for the BASIC account cos they dont advertise it much.
  • I have a basic account with TSB, and have been able to use their counter service and online banking (DDs, SOs and transfers) since day one.

Wonder if it was a setup glitch for me, or whether they've changed the rules for new accounts (this one is over 3 years old)
