Depends on what your pain thresh hold level is  The first time may be a bit sore, the hair in that area is quite deep rooted.
Have you thought about a mobile therapist to come to your home? It shouldn't matter if they know you as it's very unproffessional to talk about clients etc to others.
I do both salon and home visits, but I never talk about my clients to others.
Having a bikini wax, all you do is put on a pair of pants with the legline you want to follow, mind you try not to use your best pair as incase of stray waxI get paid to smell great :j0 -
Waxing hurts but its not excrutiating (and I do my own )
A basic bikini wax doesn't hurt to much and its over quickly. If your wanting a hollywood/brazillian/playboy then OMG that does hurt!
A good therapist will put you at ease and TBH they won't care if they know you. Im a beautician and ive probably seen more ladies bits than my local GP. It no longers phases me, most therapists go with the philosophy of 'its nothing I haven't seen before'0 -
Ok..speaking as someone who gets Hollywood, leg and underarm waxing all year round I can say categorically that its worth it. I wouldn't really classify it as pain, more as momentary discomfort that fades immediately and if necessary can be alleviated by a soothing cream after. Other posters are correct in that a good therapist will put you at your ease and will behave in a totally professional way. Think about it like this, they see intimate body parts and wax them mostly every day, there is nothing they will not have seen before and most are very matter of fact about it. I would never go back to a razor, because waxing is so effective, particularly for stubborn hair caused by hormone imbalance. I would definitely go for it Kt8.0

i had it done for my holibobs and to be honest my legs were agony, bikini area did not hurt at all! Maybe I have sensitive legs!0

im no girl but i see programs and they recommend using proffesionals for waxing, never do it yourself or someone who isnt qualified. the program i watched saw a woman losing legs etc... wasnt fun to watch, so my advice, get it done properley. good luck0

Take a pain killer 20 mins before hand (so it has time to work). Take a bottle of ice cold water to sip afterwards and personally? I'd get it done professionally- but thats because I know I am rubbish at waxing and if I am about to go through any sort of pain I want to know it will be worth it!
(Tried to wax my underarm, tore the skin and got burn marks lasting for weeks afterwards AND THE DAMN STUPID HAIRS WERE ALL STILL THERE! but thats another story!) I'd only ever get it professionally done.0 -

The scary thing is, you only have to complete a day course in waxing to be classed as qualified. Then a further 4 hour course to be qualified in advanced waxing .0 -
I get a hollywood and my legs waxed regulary, the hollywood (all off) doesn't hurt, it's the hot wax being put on the skin that is the worst, but it is bearable.
The back of my legs hurt them most, it stings there, I always take an ibuprofen 10-15mins beforehand and that's it.
The more you have it done, the less it hurts, your body becomes numb to it.
DO NOT WAX YOUR INTIMATE AREAS YOURSELF!!0 -
I've happily used wax strips at home on my legs & underarms, they're easy and not especially painful as long as you're quick. But I've only ever had bikini-line waxing done in a salon. And I can honestly say, I'd never attempt to wax there myself!!!!! Yes, it is painful, and I'm sore and glowingly red afterwards. Felt like sitting in a bath of very hot water! The other little tip I'll pass on, is; you need to exfoliate the area that's been waxed a few times a week, to stop regrowth growing back in ugly red 'pimples' of trapped hair. (There's a technical term for this but it eludes me right now!)0

Ingrown hairs - horrid!!!
I wax my bikini line myself but then again cos I'm a beautician I cringe at paying someone else to do it! Its all about what your comfortable with.0
