Hafan Y Mor - Haven park

Hi

We are thinking about taking a holiday at the Haven Hafan Y Mor park in North Wales and are looking at taking the dinner and breakfast half board option. Any reviews of the site or reccomendations would be appreciated.

Many thanks

We stayed in a private pine lodge at the beach end of the park and it was very nice. Some of the Gold Chalets looked a bit grim. We only used the lodge as a base to visit the area so can't comment on the facilities.

Even though we were staying in the privately owned lodges we used the restaurant for the half board option as we couldn't be bothered to cook. It's standard canteen fare with a few choices of starters, mains and desserts. Whilst it wasn't gourmet food it was perfectly adequate and filled the hole! You could go up as many times as you were prepared to queue for seconds/thirds/fourths. :D

The lady on the reception in the restaurant was a very friendly local lass, but the serving staff are pretty surly Eastern Europeans, which is understandable given the vulture like nature of some of the guests! We arrived on the dot for first servings before the hordes arrived and it was much more pleasant.

Tip for breakfast: send two people to queue up to get the plated breakfasts; send one person to the tea/coffee/juice machines and to get a table and the 4th person to the toast machines to get the toast.

My only gripe about my experience was when I was queuing up to return the key at the end of our holiday. You return private lodge keys to main reception and the family in front of me were telling the receptionist about a list of 10 faults in their caravan. She assured them that they would be fixed and they walked away believing her and happy. She then picked up the phone to maintenance and told them to fix only 2 random items and ignored the rest of the list! Lying cow!

We have stayed at a fair number of Haven sites now and Hafan y Mor is one of, if not the worst. Its only 45 minutes down the coast from us but its worth travelling a lot further to get a decent holiday park. The apartments were grotty, filthy and lacking in equipment, the staff are on the whole surly and unhelpful (with the exception of the entertainments staff, particularly Trigger). the area around the park is beautiful but certainly when we last stayed - 2 years ago - hafan y mor was a !!!!! hole.
I don't know if I'm getting better or just used to the pain.

I went there last year, the first week of the season. The apartment was very clean not sure if this was because it was beginning of the season lol, we went half board but booked a 2 bed apartment (with lounge and kitchen) We only really had one compalint and that was that our accomadtion was over the bridge which at night ddidnt have much lighting an their was none by the lake which was quite daunting for myself an sister with 2 young children. We mentioned it at reception and we got moved to a lovely caravan much closer to the amenites.
The food was ok, nothing to good and nothin to bad. But we were all happy with it, and it was a absolute bargain ( 2 adults, 2 kids 4 nights half board £120) was great being able to go up and help urself to more.
If ur going with children, be prepared to waste lots of money in the arcade machines that seem to be everywhere.
Overall, we really enjoyed ourselves and would go back again.. just wish it was it was when it was Butlins :(
  • we went to hafan mor a few months ago, its a beauitfull part of the world. I found the caravans we stayed in good but we did pay for the platium van and at the top end of the park by reception that was quiet. We needed heating in the bedrooms as are children are small.

I liked it as it was a great base for local things like the railways and cricert castle and beaches which were nicer after a short drive. The childrens entertainment was good for raininy days but some of the shows were repeted.

The only thing I didn't like but its the same at a lot of places like butlins and haven, was that they were constantly after money during the free entertainment:mad::mad: for the famly prize bingo:mad:, to cash bingo:mad:, to raffle:mad:,they went on and on about it throughout the night and then the flashing crap amied at the kids:mad:. I was lucky as my kids aren't at the age of seeing me as a cash cow, not yet at least;);)
I did go to the laundry while we were there and it has been done up since the last time.

we got a good discount by booking on site for the following year. I'm sorry but I have forgotten the discount code we use.

everyones take on holidays are different but we liked as we have small kids and are not tied into the school holidays so we can upgrade for a bit extra for the time being.
