Can I get rid of anything on the laptop?

Options
I'm hopefully abandoning Windows soon and switching to Ubuntu - just need to get all my spreadsheets working on Open Office.

In the meantime I hoped I could tidy up the rest of the laptop.
I've defragged with Perfectdisk to make more space for a decent sized partition and got rid of quite a lot of unwanted stuff but the laptop still has spells when it has a go slow.

I was in the middle of something this morning when Firefox started '(not responding)' for about 10 minutes. When it came back to life & I started typing it froze again so I ended up re-booting. It's been fine since.

Came across the thread about speeding up a slow pc in which it was suggested that more than about 30 processes at a time was too many. I don't think I've ever had less than 50 even just after startup.

So I wondered if anyone could see if there's anything running that needn't/shouldn't be there.

Malwarebytes log came up clean but here it is anyway.

I know it's not an answer to your question, but if you're dumping windows & switching to linux, why does it matter how many processes you have in windows? Install ubuntu & worry about getting that running properly instead, rather than spending time troubleshooting an OS you're going to ditch.

Old habits die hard. I like to keep things just in case...

30 processes too much? How long is a piece of string? It all depends what you do with your PC, what hardware you have that runs its own software, etc. To say that 30 is too many makes no sense.
They say it's genetic, they say he can't help it, they say you can catch it - but sometimes you're born with it

    I wouldn't have any idea.
I just found it when reading this thread

Processes - how many programs are being run now (anything over 20-25 is too many)

You're on Vista, and IIRC a clean install, from a MS disk starts at about 40 processes, add in AV etc, 50 is about par.
XP is around 20/25 at installation.
    Move along, nothing to see.
  • Think these can be removed (please check):

R3 is an sweetIM toolbar - if you need it, keep it but the toolbar itself can be unistalled I think.

    Thanks
I'll sort that when I get home. I've already uninstalled the sweetIM toolbar from the control panel, but keep finding traces of it. It's the last time I let the kids install anything for their instant messaging!
