Perhaps historically customers were charged, however this buffer does exist, and I've sourced an official statement from HBOS confirming so.
You need to appreciate that the anonymity of MSE gives little weight to signatures or posts which declare who you work for. Bank employees can provide useful insight, but should not rely on "I know better because I work for them" when countered with a sourced piece of information. Short of MSE'ers phoning Telephone Banking (by all means, 08457 20 30 40) to ask, I have provided the only credible source.
This reply is not intended to offend, just to give you an understanding of the impression posts such as the above give.
No, no, no offense at all, and I'm not trying to say i know best. Just that from my experience, on the majority of current accounts, people get charged as soon as they go over their limit, I'm also a customer of HBoS, and on the one occasion that I was £4.67 over my limit i was charged as i didn't notice, no worries!100% G33K:D:D:D:D

Yes there is a £10 buffer on the Easycash account. It allows you to overdraw via Direct Debit and Standing Order. It won't authorise POS payments for £10 if you have £9.99 in your account for example, same at cash point.
Barclays Cashcard account has one too. but it will allow you to take £10 out of the atm if you have 9.99.
RBS/Natwest will charge you if you go 0.000000000000000000000000000000000000000000001p overdrawn without an authorised overdraft.0 -

Going over your overdraft Limit is not the same as slipping £4.67 into the red on an account with no overdraft. if you have an overdraft you are already way past the £10 buffer and into £100's of pounds. so any more than the agreed limit is chargeable.
I used to work for Halifax Lending and there is Definitely a £10 buffer on Easycash and there has been this facility for the last 10 years on whatever they call the account currently and historically, it has nothing to do with a change in the terms and conditions recently. It is there to minimise customer complaints and workload dealing with complaints about petty cash refunds.0
