Painting Radiator that has been Stripped

Options
Hi all,

I have had a radiator stripped the other month as it had so many coats of paint on from the last person that lived here it needed doing before repainting again. I was unable to purchase a new radiator which i know would have been cheaper as i need to use the old one you see.

Now that i have the radiator back and stripped down how do i go about painting it again. Would you suggest i sand down still and clean and then prime.

If anyone can advise what prime paint and radiator paint i shoudl use.

Chris

  • If its off the wall I suggest you test it outside first & see if any of that paint you removed was covering a hole.

I have it off the wall as the paint was removed by a paint remover company that is local to me. They did not sand blast it but used another method.

I have no outside tap to test it outside. Do you suggest i refit it and test that way before re painting or is there another way

Could take it to my dad. DO you suggest just fill up with a hose upside and see if the water holds

Yes. Take it outside, stick your hosepipe in it and fill it up (put radiator up-side-down for ease of work). When rad is full, plug the exit with your finger and get someone to hold hose still turned on. Any leak should be seen immediately.
