Halifax-Withdrawing transfer facility from their cash machines

Hi All
Just found out that Halifax are withdrawing the facility to transfer funds between Halifax accounts from their cash machines.
This is really annoying, my husband and I have separate current accounts with the Halifax and we transfer money [mainly from his to mine VBG] at least twice and sometimes five times a month.
He tried to transfer his wages and bonus [two separate payments] into my account this weekend only to find this choice has been removed from the cash machines.
So we have had to ring up the telephone banking service sit in a queue to wait to be answered, then go through a sales patter for services we don't want and need, try and remember answers to security questions on an account he set up over 15 years ago, squint like mad to read the account number off my card etc etc, he was very frustrated in the end and it took over 20 mins.
THEN to add insult to injury the smaller bonus transfer has cleared straight away [as normal] BUT his wages the larger amount will not transfer till midday on Monday!
How is this progress? As more people come to realise what has happened the number of calls to the telephone banking service will increase and the wait time to be answered will go up AND customers may go overdrawn if transactions are no longer instantaneous!:(

Okay, transfers were never guaranteed to be 'instantaneous', noon the next working day is a very common timescale, if the transfer is done during a weekday, before the close of business that its max 2hours. some account such as save4it ALWAYS take the longer time.100% G33K

I think the point is that ATM funds transfers did take place instantaneously.Azrael_1701 wrote: »Okay, transfers were never guaranteed to be 'instantaneous', noon the next working day is a very common timescale, if the transfer is done during a weekday, before the close of business that its max 2hours. some account such as save4it ALWAYS take the longer time.
They wrote to all account holders in March/April to advise them of this.Just found out that Halifax are withdrawing the facility to transfer funds between Halifax accounts from their cash machines.
Online banking is excellent for doing this. I've not used telehone banking for donkeys years, but is there not an automated system that would do this for you by phone? This is really annoying, my husband and I have separate current accounts with the Halifax and we transfer money [mainly from his to mine VBG] at least twice and sometimes five times a month.
As previously advised. He tried to transfer his wages and bonus [two separate payments] into my account this weekend only to find this choice has been removed from the cash machines.
It's not progress. HBOS systems are being moved on to the Lloyds TSB platform which doesn't support certain types of transaction. I believe only 0.5% of customers used the ATM funds transfer and bill payment facility so would guess that it wasn't worth the IT development costs to develop the service on the Lloyds TSB system. How is this progress? As more people come to realise what has happened the number of calls to the telephone banking service will increase and the wait time to be answered will go up AND customers may go overdrawn if transactions are no longer instantaneous!:(
It's basically because some silly person in HBOS Corporate lent to lots of property developers who couldn't afford to pay it back. As a result HBOS got taken over by Lloyds and in order to save money Lloyds are shutting down a lot of HBOS systems. Wait until it hits the branches!0 -
We have used these accounts for 25+ years and the funds transfers via the machines have always been instantaneous.
We don't want to use internet accounts.0 -
you will also notice that cash paid in at a cash machine now takes a full working day to clear. The reason for these changes is to fall more in line with lloyds preparing for the merger.100% G33K

The ATM service was quick and simple. Far more advanced than telephone banking. You'll be left in the dark ages then i'm afraid. Things have moved on in the last 25+ years. If you don't want to use Internet Banking then use Telephone Banking.
It always took the same amount of time as printing a mini-statement or checking a balance. It's barely used and doesn't have any significant impact on other customers (unlike call queues in call centres).I can think of nothing worse then spending ages being stuck behind someone at a cash point who spends 15 minutes fart ar5ing about doing their weekly banking at the ATM, totally oblivious to the massive queue behind them of irate people who just wanted to use the CASH MACHINE to do something completely ridiculous like WITHDRAW CASH.
It's beyond me why people would withdraw cash in these days of debit cards!0 -
And as we used the cash machines on a Friday night or Sunday there were never any queue's or queueing issues.
Just because things have moved on doesn't make things better does it! Until internet banking is 100% secure and the onus isn't on the customer to prove how their money was stolen [this happened to a friend of ours who had £3k stolen from their online account] and our kids stop infecting the PC with virus and trojans [yes the AV, spyware etc is up to date] we won't be signing up!0 -
I can't believe people used cash machines to do this, in fact I never even knew it do this and I have both a Halifax and BOS account.
Why not get to the 21st century and use internet banking, you don't even have to leave your house. My Mum who has a LTSB account can transfer money from her account to my BOS instantly using online banking.0 -

Not everywhere accept cards, not everywhere that does, doesn't levy a charge for using it for smaller amounts.
One of the things that does annoy me is people who haven't even got the cash for a paper and a chocolate bar and pay by card.

So conducting your banking out on the street on a Friday night is more secure than using internet banking from home using your own(not the kids) PC?0
