Moving Day - oh the joy!

Hi all,

i thought now i have 5 minutes i'll update you on our moving day, and to also say thanks to all the advise and support you have provided over the last 6 mths.

Our moving day was Friday 18th (the afternoon before, i got a phone call from solicitors to advise that our buyers funds should be there at 6am on the 18th and she will ring me at 9am to confirm)

On Friday......9am comes and goes, no call, in the meantime removal (hubby and mates) are in full swing packing up the house.

I rang solicitor at 10:30 to find out whats going on, no funds yet, she goes off to find out whats wrong, finally the funds arrive at 1:30, we finish packing at 2:30 (7.5 tonne van, and we couldn't fit in the garden plants!, old neighbour is babysitting them for us :) )

We then get a call from solicitor to say our funds havn't got up the chain so we can't have the keys, we end up sitting in a layby for an hour........finally get the call at 3pm that we can go to the house and the keys are there waiting for us

gets to the house.........lo and behold, there is the biggest skip in the world on the drive and the front garden if full of 3 old settee's and as if that isn't enough they left all their old beds in the house!!!!!!!!!

rings solicitor, she's gone home :( so one of my hubbys mates rings the skip hire company and they go mad as the skip is cash on collection.......they are around at our's in 10 minutes and they ring the old owner and demand that he comes back and sorts out!!!!!!! what a drama that was. so that removes the skip.

so the settee's and beds are still in the garden, i rang council special collections and explained and they said they will collect this week.

gets in house rips out every single carpets and starts to mop the floors etc.

(oh and do a school run :) )

so by now times ticking by, not unloaded an item yet........england game starts in 30 minutes...........so we rang up van hire place extends hire for another day, parks on drive, locks games and goes to pub........we unpacked the day after (stayed at a mates house)

What a day.........had a few issues and a lot of laughs

good luck everyone who is buying/selling or just browsing, the biggest learner for me is to try to stay positive and don't lose your humour even when it gets REALLY hard.....all the best Goldengirl

Sounds a bit hectic, but at least you got there in the end! Now you have all the fun of arranging furniture, and decorating. :)

We are buying, and are lucky that we are not in a chain, and can take as long as we want (within reason) to move out. It would stress me out in a big way, to have to move in one day.

Glad you got in on the same day Goldengirl, I, 4 dogs, 4 cats and a van load of all my worldly goods were homeless overnight when the funds got screwed up for my move!

When I did get in the house they too had left all the beds, snooker table, freezer and assorted dross - had to get my own skip and pull up all the filthy carpets.

OH wants to move but can't understand my reluctance

I'm glad it worked out in the end for you. Mine should be straight forward, as first time buyers and the fact the sellers have already moved into their new property.

Congratulations to all those who have actually recently moved into their new homes. I didn't realise people were so awful leaving so much rubbish behind.

well as you say it does not always go according to plan. We moved into our new home 2 weeks ago. There was a power cut at the local RBS bank so the transaction could not go ahead and they found another way to do this also the seller of our new home do a search and is supposed to pass to us well they sat on this until about lunch-time.

We were all packed up in the removal van and doing nothing so the removal van went away for a while and then at 2.45pm we got the call that funds all transferred and we have bought our new house. Managed to get the bedrooms sorted and kitchen cleaned and some unpacked before nursery run (we had lots of help on the day). We have done a lot to the house in the 2 weeks and the next big project is our bedroom as no storage and needs decoration - but we are doing well.

it is certainly a learning curve.
