Couple to Single claim

I think i remember reading somewhere that when you go from couple to single it is instant??? But, single to couple needs an entire new claim to be completed.

Can anyone confirm this as i need to call them and declare a change and don't want to be left short. Am going from couple to single as of today

THANKS for any advice

Part of the Furniture Combo Breaker I've been Money Tipped!
That's what happened for me when my OH moved out in January. I phoned them up to cancel the joint claim and they sorted out my new single claim on the phone there and then - took maybe 10 mins. I had my first single person payment within a week but it took approx 3 weeks to get the paperwork through.
You will probably get your payment this week at the old rate as it's too late to change it, but I wasn't left with getting no payment in any week.

  • when my bf moved in they closed my claim immediately & sent me forms to fill out for the new claim which I never received despite them sending them twice.

In the end after a month with no money I phoned my local tax office & made an appointment to go in & fill the forms out there so to hurry the process up.

It only took a week after that for my money to come through.
I'd rather regret the things I've done than regret the things I haven't done.

When I went from a couple to a single claim they did it there and then on the phone it didn't take long at all and I still got money that week.
My payment day did change from a tuesday to a wednesday that was because I rang them and started a new claim on a wednesday apparently.
does take a while for all the paperwork to arrive though.

Brill - thanks guys. I rang them today as officially claim ends today - my normal pay day is Wed but i understand that may change now. I was going to wait until Wed and backdate as then i would not miss out on the payment but as they sound so efficient i rang today :)

    Housing benefit to cancel tomorrow.

when i went from a couples claim to singles claim, they did take the details over the phone so there were no forms to fill in. but it did take a couple of weeks for me to get any payments, although these were backdated to the day that i phoned.
