What can I do with computer parts?

I got myself a computer in 2007. I now have a laptop and my computer is far too slow (1Gb ram) to use.
What can I do with the parts of the computer please? Would rather not just chuck it.

Take the HDD out, keep it and sell the rest, either as one unit, or separated, on eBay or Gumtree0

One whole Gig of RAM ... at only 3 years old it should be far from decrepit.
It's probably got clogged up with a load of useless stuff, if you have a manufacturer's restore disk then restore it to its new condition formatting the hard drive, if you don't then put Linux on it.
It might also be worth putting in another Gig of RAM.A kind word lasts a minute, a skelped erse is sair for a day.0 -
All sorts of tat sells on eBay but the killer with old desktops is the cost of posting because they tend to be heavy and need decent packaging.
Unless it was slow to start with a 3 year old machine should still be OK - especially if given a new lease of life with a reinstall of the operating system and maybe even a ram upgrade depending on just what it is and what operating system it is running (XP wouldn't benefit hugely).
If you really can't think of any use for it yourself and don't know anybody who could then I'd agree that freecycle is the best way forward.0 -

Indeed. I only upgraded mine a few months ago. I'd been using the same spec since 2006. It was actually fast enough for everything I wanted it for but the missus wanted to do photoshop. She's a signwriter so its proper use of photoshop with 1:1 image sizes of 3ftx10ft sometimes.0
