Buying my first home

Im currently in the process of buying my first flat; the offer has been accepted, survey done, mortgage approved. Just waiting on the solicitor now, its all taking so long!

I must admit to getting cold feet now as Ive lived with my parents and brother my whole life and will be living alone and am worried about being lonely and managing all the bills by myself.

Im keep thinking "Oh my God Im buying a property have I gone mad?!"

Not sure what my question is really just need to offload and was wondering did anyone feel this way when they bought their first place?

1 are you happy to live in your new flat for several years .
2 can you afford it .
Buying your first place can be exciting and scarry at the same time .
Having to budget for everything ,leaving the previous owners decor because you cant afford to decorate .

If you are happy about it then go for it and enjoy the experience .

you will never forget you first time:T:rotfl:

  • What you've entered into is a massive undertaking so no wonder your worried.

Cutting the apron strings and buying a property is two big steps.

Take a deep breath and take the next step and complete is my advice.

Your investing in your future with bricks and mortor !

Im sure you've done the maths before making the decision to buy, and you will make friends.

As for paying the bills then just knock up something on microsoft word to use as a check off.

I use a note menu system in my mobile fone which reminds me what and when to pay.

Direct debits and standing orders take the hassle away too.

    Enjoy the journey.

Use direct debits to pay bills.

No chance of forgetting to pay and a whole world of admin worries goes away.

You'll be fine...you'll adjust; it may take a few weeks/months, but you won't look back. :)

I'm in the process of buying a house at the moment, and I too can't believe how long it is taking. I just want it over and done with, as the longer it takes, it seems the more can go wrong.

Its incredibly stressful. I cant believe the property laws in this country. They seem to be designed to make the whole process as slow and painful as possible.

    Hi Chelseablue

I felt exactly the same when I bought my first flat! I remember saying to one of my friends 'You'll have to come round loads, so I'm not lonely!'. But I wasn't lonely at all, I loved shutting myself in MY place and doing what I wanted. Bliss.

The first couple of weeks, I'd wake up in the morning and the first thought that came into my head was 'I'm in my flat! :)'. Unfortunately the second thought was 'But I've got to get up and go to work :('. You can't have everything! Lol.

I'm sure you'll be fine, good luck.
Are the words 'I have a cunning plan' marching with ill-deserved confidence in the direction of this conversation?

Don't worry chelseablue - there are lots of pluses to buying your own place:

Decorate anyway you like - you have no-one else to please - pick your favourite colours!
The best seat in the lounge is all yours
    As is the TV remote
When you get in, no-one has made any mess (that wasn't there when you left!)
    Privacy
Inviting whoever you want around whenever you want
    No-one's finished your chocolates/the milk
    No-one wakes you up
You can have whatever pets you want
You can hog the bathroom all you like/you don't have to wait to use it
Peace and quiet if you want it/playing whatever music you want
You're reducing the amount you owe the bank every month/buying more house
    Freedom

It is a big step, but enjoy it. You're friends and family will all want to drop round and see you in your new place. You can invite anyone over whenver you want. Hope it works out for you.

Thank you! When I read stuff like this I feel really excited :j

But then I think Am I buying the right place? Should I save for a few more years and buy a house??

I managed to save the £50,000 deposit in just over 3 years, Ive always been good with money so hopefully the bills arent anything to panic about

Oh and of course Im sad that me and my family wont be under the same roof anymore :(
