Arnold Clark - Truth or Lies?

Hiya
I'm looking to buy my first car and have decided on a Corsa 1.4 Design 2009 reg. I did some research and went to my local Arnold Clark Vauxhall branch. After some discussion they located some suitable cars and highlighted the price (a standard price for all with the same approx mileage).
I enquired whether there was room for negotiation on the price (quoted £8499) and was told that Arnold Clark no longer negotiate on prices as a rule because their prices are as low as they can go. This came as a bit of a surprise, and so I walked away.
I have a friend who's partner recently worked in Arnold Clark and was told by them that prices were negotiable, so I'm thinking this salesman was not being truthful with me.
Has anyone else experienced this or know the truth of the matter? I thought haggling on used cars was expected!
I've searched around online and have found similar cars around the 8k mark from car supermarkets etc.
Thanks v much

Oh and also meant to ask - what sort of things can you reasonably ask to be thrown in as freebies when purchasing a used car?
Thanks!

Arnold Clark has taken over that part of the market by selling nearly new cars at the best price for years now, it's kind of obvious that using that business model once someone like that saturates the market they can start to name their own price.
We've used Arnold Clark before, only got money off because we bought the service package. It turned outt heir service was very poor and I'd not touch their service package with someone else's bargepole now.;)
For a car with low mileage and that price, I'd use the online vendors that are doing it £500 cheaper, and use the £500 to buy an extended waranty.
I know it's your first car, but try to think with your head and not your heart , which I know is hard when you're sitting in a shiny new to you car.:)
p.s. have you checked out insurance and road tax costs for these? Do your homework on what is the cheapest decent car for a new driver to run, you might be surprised.Member of the first Mortgage Free in 3 challenge, no.19

The salesman is correct.
Arnold clark do not negotiate on price. I think at best they may recategorise a car if they want rid of it. They do however have room on exchanges etc and generally at times pay some good prices on these.
Arnold Clark arent a great dealer and go for bulk. I would never buy an out of warranty car from them and never take their word for anything but if you buy a nearly new car and get everything up front you should be ok and get a good price.0 -
Its a silly price for a second hand average supermini. You could actually get a new Corsa for that price if you look hard enough
Nearly superminis seem to be fetching almost as much as new ones.0
