I have made a total mess today and do not want to waste any more money so need advice please.

I do not have a garden but a paved area between my house and garage, we are in a mid terrace. I have eventually got hubby to move storage box and old wheelbarrow we did not need as I want a little seatng area. so bought a jack and jill bench today which was £50. A bargain I think as first one I looked at was £160 in local store.

So off I pop today and bought some large planter pots, think thats what they are called and a few window box type troughs. Just plastic onces not expensive. Now this is where things went wrong, went to diy store and bought plants I thought looked nice :rotfl: did not think if they were suitable, spent a fortune. Some where 12 for £5, some where 3 for £10 and some where £6 EACH. Now I planted them in pots and now think I have made a total b*lls up. some are probally not even for tubs.

I want a few more pots so can anyone advise me CHEAP plants to put in them, local garden centre are looking £18 for plastic tub with plants, this seemed expensive but now not so sure. I had this idea of painting wheelbarrow and planting stuff in it for seatign area but I do not have a clue :rotfl:

I think I must be worst gardener even , maybe should have bought plastic flowers lol

I'd buy geraniums, petunias, bizzy lizzie, fuscia, lobelia, and just mix them in the pots... they all do well in pots... what are the names of the plants you bought we might be able to tell you whats suitable and whats not...

There's no reason why most plants won't grow in pots, given enough water and feed. I mean, you bought them in pots didn't you?
Don't fret about it. You bought the plants you liked, OK some will need a bit of trimming back now and then, but that's OK. They aren't your typical summer bedding plants, but that's OK too, at least most of your plants will come back next year rather than having to replace them for winter bedding, and then for summer bedding!
As an example, my apple trees are in pots. They have a great crop of apples.
You can grow rhubarb in a pot.

As for cheap? I'd just say stick with what you've got and see what happens. How cheap is that!

Doelani - painting the wheelbarrow and planting stuff in it sounds like a great idea :D You must remember to drill a couple of holes in the bottom or it may become waterlogged but other than that I reckon it would look fab planted up with summer bedding.

    Good luck :D

You've probably bought mostly bedding plants. They're tender/annuals usually, so will only last one season.

If you get hardy perennials, or hardy self sowing annuals, they'll come back every year and probably multiply too.

Pansies are pretty good as they are self seeding (which is why my path now has them popping up everywhere LOL) easy to care for too and I love their "faces" :)
