sounds like the nut has come off the operating rod. probably due to rust.
to be honest i would change the whole cistern for a more modern one.Get some gorm.0 -
I thought I would update this.....my patience with using a bucket of water to flush the toilet has now worn thin.....I think it was after I stumbled and managed to soak my feet and sandals with the contents of the bucket.
I have had a plumber out to have a look and the job has grown.
At closer inspection, the toilet is bedded onto a raised platform of concrete, about 4 inches high, so we are now in major demolition territory and my straightforward job of plumb in a new toilet has vanished.
I think it could be easier to look for an replacement water tank, so I'm off to the local demolition yard, via the plumbers merchants to see if they take pity on a poor helpless female who has a nut off her operating rod.Official DFW Nerd Club - Member no: 203.0 -
can you post a photo?
still cant see why you cannot just change the cistern for a low level one?
getting an old iron tank is a very last resort.Get some gorm.0 -
Hi,
These were intended as a replacement for your cistern.
Do you have a good independent plumbers merchant near you ?
Or a good old fashioned hardware shop. You need to speak to somebody .
I can't see why it's not repairable though.
Keep you nuts tight now!
