Citroen Berlingo Van MPG

A few months ago I started a thread about a dare/stupid top gear challenge where I sold my nice car and started to run a crappy old banger van. The challenge was to go on a serious road trip of a few thousand miles in the banger which will be sometime in September.
For those not aware the banger I bought is a lovely Wolverhampton racing white Citroen Berlingo 1.9d van. It's a 2002 and has done just over 119800 miles. I only do about 600 miles per month as I ride to work but this has meant I've only filled the van 3 times since I've had it. Each time I've done a brim MPG calculation on the fuel I've put in and got 40.1mpg, 43.1 mpg and 41.3 mpg respectively. The van has roofbars fitted and I just wondered if anyone else runs such a lovely motor and has mpg figures to report and if removing the roof bars would make a big difference?
Thanks in advance.

Removing roofbars would give you another 3-4MPG.0

Both berlingos on there have similar figures to yours.0 -
Hello!
I run a Berlingo 1.9D Multispace and get about 40-43mpg so yours is about right. As others have said, removing the roofbars will help.
Also, replace the air filter.
Run a fuel injector cleaner too, not the STP/Wynns rubbish from halfrauds but a proper one from a garage.0
